Public News The iPhone apps world reminds me of the gold rush, everybody hurrying for their little nugget. Somewhat it is in the american DNA, run to prevail, the reward is at the horizon and it will be huge.
This morning I ran into an app that is genius.

Public News I finally got me an iPhone and an iPad, on the same week. These two objects are both an unbelievable step forward as for the quality of their industrialization and the power of their user interface. They give the same emotions as when you look at jewels of engineering like a Ferrari.

Public News Tonight at midnight, the new law that bans smoke at public venues will come into effect.
I smoked my last one at the Alley Kat and the Cove.
It's funny that it feels like a historical step. But as I was thinking, it's not gonna last, people will come to their senses sometime. Perhaps a long time.

Space Invaders is 30. It first came out in April 1978.
It came out the following year in Italy, when the new arcade halls were booming. We had one in my home town, Monselice, where i used to hang around, always short of 100 or 200 Lire coins.

I played a lot and became one of the best, i signed my records as Camel Bill, but i didn't know I was that good until the following summer, 1980.
That was my first trip abroad, to Oxford, England, to learn English. Once in a while we'd find a pub and we'd play the game.

The last time I was almost missing the return flight, I was so into the game, and a small crowd of british teenagers formed around me in awe. I scored the all time record for that joint, and I remember I felt kind of proud, while I was signing that English video game with my Camel Bill marque, while grabbing my hand luggage and rushing to the bus to the airport.

Public News Living outside Italy since a while, I tend to forget those little annoying things that seemed to make sense, while out of that little country just give you a good laugh. The tax in the title is a governmental fee on the bank statement that you receive monthly. I don't need that statement, I don't need that paper to be printed, still I have to pay the fee (17.10 EUR, not a few cents!). I don't recall anything similar in the US.

Public News I remember back in the day when your PC was not connected, and still you used it everyday to learn programming, to hack a game, to draw something...
Then the Fidonet came, so some your time was spent checking the free software and the message boards.
Then the Internet came, and it was a whole revolution. Fast forwarding to nowadays, I wouldn't be using the PC as much, in my spare time, if it weren't for the Internet.
And now, through the internet, you can watch good quality streaming TV. I was watching a show on a minor italian TV about food in Tuscany, and i realized...what a different use I am doing with this PC. Still, using it to watch TV does seem like an insult to Wirth, Shannon and Intelligence. I will have to go back to hacking some good ole C++ code, in order to clean my digital soul.

Public News The USA are the greatest Country. Here you have men like the one below, just a common guy of 80 with $4 billion in his pockets, who doesn't think he needs any more money. I don't care that he, or his heirs, will make more money. This Plan is good. Even for those who have never seen those wide open spaces of Texas.

Public News I don't talk about sports that much in here, but after investing much of my sunday afternoon watching a pathetic soccer game between Spain and Italy, I have a couple of points to make. The show that those two teams put together today was lame, especially Italy, in consideration of the fact that they had a good chance to win - in my humble opinion.
When I saw Spain, after the very beginning, keep the ball in their defense area, I thought great, they will play defensively and that's when we can put pressure, attack hard, score, have fun. Instead, when we got the ball, we played the same way. For almost the whole game, the two teams haven't fought, waiting for who-knows-what. Maybe the penalty kicks, although they should know that those are like flipping a coin, they are ugly and in essence the representation of the failure of a sport.
I stand for Italy, of course, but I don't like when they are not playing, when they are faking fouls, and when they are making fouls - that in this case the ref didn't punish, strange.
If they even tried, they would have probably made it, or at least they would have lost more honorably.
